'Think Pink'

CAMPAIGN ALERTS WOMEN ON THE NEED FOR MAMMOGRAPHY.

In partnership with Américas Amigas, more than 500 mammograms will be donated

The launch of the Think Pink campaign 2016 edition took place on the morning of Tuesday (27), in the city of Potim.

The NGO Orientavida, which is responsible for the development of the project throughout Brazil, alerts people to the need to mobilise against breast cancer by promoting examinations and monitoring patients' results.

The event had the partnership of Américas Amigas, Civil Society Organization of Public Interest (OSCIP), which appeared in 2009 from the initiative of Barbara Sobel, wife of the then United States ambassador to Brazil, currently ambassador of the project. "One of the reasons that made me want to do this work was knowing that 42% of women who have breast cancer in Brazil die. In the United States it is 16%, here cancer is discovered very late", she says.

The organization donated more than 500 mammograms that were destined to the region of Potim, Guaratinguetá and Aparecida. According to Barbara, the choice of cities came through personal contacts and the exams were destined to patients who had been waiting a long time for the exam.

According to the organisation, more than 500,000 mammograms have already been performed and around 440,000 women have been attended to in 12 Brazilian states. In all, 23 mammographs have been donated to the health sector.

Milene de Oliveira, 26, says she went to the event to learn more about the disease. "I am manicure, deal with many women every day, some are even afraid to do the exam. It is good to have information because this way I can pass it on to them", she stresses.

About the event, the mayor of Potim said: "I am very happy to know that we have here today the presence of several illustrious people, who left their tasks, the daily rush to be thinking about life". Also present were Maristela Siqueira Macedo, Technical Director of the Regional Health Division of Drs XVII, in Taubaté, and Silvana Bauducco, representative of the brand Bauducco, sponsor of the campaign.
