Do you know the difference between NGO and OSCIP?
NGO or Non Governmental Organization is a generic denomination to define a third sector organization or non-profit entity. NGOs are private entities whose actions are 100% focused on benefiting the population in favor of a certain cause.
OSCIP, or Civil Society Organization of Public Interest, is governed by Federal Law 9.790/99. Besides not being profit-oriented, it is federally recognized.
According to SEBRAE's definition, "An OSCIP is a legal qualification attributed to different types of private entities acting in typical areas of the public sector with social interest, which can be financed by the State or by the private non-profit sector. In other words, the typical entities of the third sector. The OSCIP is provided for in the Brazilian legal system as a way to facilitate partnerships and agreements with all levels of government and public agencies (federal, state and municipal) and allows donations made by companies to be deducted from income tax."
