Américas Amigas promotes donation for the Guarulhos General Hospital

Reference hospital in the municipality of Guarulhos will receive a digital mammography device capable of performing up to 120 exams per day.

Américas Amigas, organization that works to fight breast cancer mortality rates in Brazil, will officially donate on 14/3 (Friday), at noon, a digital mammography device for HGG - Hospital Geral de Guarulhos. The hospital, which was opened on April 14, 2000, is a reference for Diagnostic Support, performing internal and external exams for the Municipal and State Network. It is the largest hospital in the municipality, which lacked this equipment to make an accurate diagnosis of breast cancer. The mammograph was acquired through the donation of Barbara and Clifford Sobel. With this donation, Américas Amigas makes official its 4th partnership with the Santa Casa de Misericórdia Association of São Paulo, which manages the General Hospital of Guarulhos, in addition to the three awarded in 2013: Central Hospital of Santa Casa, Vila Nova Cachoeirinha Hospital and UBS União das Vilas de Taipas. Francisca de Paula Harley, president of Américas Amigas, believes that with this equipment, which produces diagnoses with high image quality, the population of Guarulhos will be very well served. "The certainty that we are giving to low-income women the same possibilities that women who are assisted by health insurance or who can pay for private consultations and exams have justifies all our efforts. Besides, I usually say that with this programme we are giving Life a Chance! In Brazil, breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women, second only to skin cancer. According to the Ministry of Health, the incidence that is already high should be even higher this year (2014). It is estimated 576,580 cases of cancer (considering all types of the disease) in Brazil in 2014, which represents an increase of 11% compared to the national forecast of 2012. According to the government, breast cancer will continue to be the second most common type for women and should affect 57,100.
