Pink October 2014

Américas Amigas starts campaign for Pink October 2014.

Partnerships with companies and institutions should impact thousands of women in the fight against breast cancer

- Américas Amigas, a nonprofit civil association that fights against the high rates of breast cancer mortality in Brazil, starts the Pink October campaign with a series of partnerships that should impact thousands of women in Brazil.

Pink October is worldwide known as the month of awareness about one of the diseases that kills most women, breast cancer. Americas Amigas, which since 2009 works for the reduction of mortality rates from breast cancer, is mobilizing sectors, companies and friends in order to draw attention to the importance of mammography and invite women to do the exam.

For early detection to become a reality, besides having state-of-the-art equipment, well-trained mammography technicians and radiologists specializing in detecting breast cancer at its initial stage, it is necessary to inform that mammography is the most suitable examination for detecting the disease and must be done annually by women over 40 years of age.

Discovering breast cancer at its initial stage enables cure in 95% of cases. More than 57 thousand new cases of the disease are expected in Brazil in 2014 and the earlier the detection, the greater the probability of cure.

Américas Amigas' campaign for Pink October will begin at Livraria Cultura of Shopping Iguatemi São Paulo, on October 1 at 6:30pm, with a free lecture by Professor Sérgio Simon, oncologist and one of the founders of the institution. Among the actions that are being developed by Américas Amigas in partnership with institutions, we can highlight:

- In October one of the company's aircraft will carry the pink ribbon, symbol of the cause, printed in the fuselage.

- Who pass by Paulista Avenue during the month of October will see on the LED panel of Fiesp the pink ribbon, symbol of Pink October. The action is expected to impact thousands of people.

- Nine shopping malls of the Iguatemi chain are also participating in the movement. The action of lighting up monuments, public buildings, bridges and theatres in pink has become a symbol of this campaign and will take place on the malls' façades. In addition to the lighting, all communication and shop window displays will be decorated in pink. The websites and social networks of both will also join the campaign and publish content related to this cause. There will also be a road show in the state of São Paulo with lectures on breast cancer and the importance of the mammography exam for early detection of the disease.
