The best way to fight breast cancer is to prevent it!

Why 40+?

The number of breast cancer cases in women in their 40s already represents 5% of the total

The increase in the incidence of Breast Cancer in women aged between 40 years in Brazil, already represents around 4% and 5% of the cases, according to the Brazilian Society of Mastology. In most cases, a more aggressive version of the disease usually affects these women who, for being out of the recommended screening range, may have a later diagnosis, which reduces the chances of curing the disease.

The "Mammography 40+" project seeks to raise awareness among public authorities about the importance of expanding access for women served by the Unified Health System (SUS) for this essential examination in the prevention of breast cancer.

How is prevention done?

Mammography is the main test to detect breast cancer in the initial stage, when there is still no nodule or the nodule is so small that it is not palpable.

This is why Américas Amigas has already benefited more than 975 thousand women in situations of social vulnerability by taking them to mammography exams.
